The Utah Senate asked Congress to repeal the 17th Amendment, which was ratified under the Progressive’s of 1913. Utah has boldly challenged a system that was never the intent of the Founding Fathers and suggests that the 17th Amendment has resulted in Senators being bound to special interest groups, that donate enormous sums of money for the Senator’s re-election, and not representing the needs of the people of Utah.
The bill’s sponsor, Sen. Al Jackson of Utah, believes that Senators need to “come home every weekend and take direction from their state legislative (sic) body and from the House and the Governor on how they should vote in the upcoming week.”
Passing with 20-6 SJR2 was sent to the House. It demands that Congress repeal the 17th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.
Read a history of the 17th Amendment and why Utah has made such a bold call to action on the following page.
Leave the Constitution alone.
Either way you will have corruption.
I agree with the repeal of the 17th Amendment. The Senates primary purpose was to secure the rights of the states. With the direct election of senators we essentially have to houses of representatives which simply transfers the money from tax payers to others who pay little or none to buy their votes. Corruption at its most egregious.
As to the idea that repealing one would lead to the widespread repeal of others that’s not the case. We repealed the 18th Amendment after it proved problematic. (Prohibition was an utter failure)
Holy c**p Raymond Braud – you’re kind of an idiot, huh? There have been over 11,000 attempts to amend the Constitution – many in the past year and ten years. It’s only been successful 27 times – AS EVIDENCED BY THE 27 AMENDMENTS, numb-nuts.
It doesn’t take a national election to amend the constitution – in fact, in can’t even be done that way.
Do they teach NOTHING in schools anymore? WTF.
Interesting. Can you cite sources?

Chris stevens, Tyrone Woods, Glen Doherty, Sean Smith. Those are the only names I need to know to be sure that Hillary isn’t for me. Semper Fi.
Matt Walls, I could make an allegation that you are involved in a child pornography ring. That doesn’t make it true. I remember hearing “innocent until proven guilty” somewhere. That was before liberals took over the country.
This amendment replaces the representation of the state legislatures with a popular vote. This removed states rights. In order for it to be lawful, the ratification by the states would have to be unanimous. A majority cannot vote to remove suffrage from a minority.
Before you can be found innocent or guilty you have to first be tried. Something that doesn’t happen once you reach a certain level in our government. Bunch of crooked thieves. Democrats and Republicans
