The Utah Senate asked Congress to repeal the 17th Amendment, which was ratified under the Progressive’s of 1913. Utah has boldly challenged a system that was never the intent of the Founding Fathers and suggests that the 17th Amendment has resulted in Senators being bound to special interest groups, that donate enormous sums of money for the Senator’s re-election, and not representing the needs of the people of Utah.
The bill’s sponsor, Sen. Al Jackson of Utah, believes that Senators need to “come home every weekend and take direction from their state legislative (sic) body and from the House and the Governor on how they should vote in the upcoming week.”
Passing with 20-6 SJR2 was sent to the House. It demands that Congress repeal the 17th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.
Read a history of the 17th Amendment and why Utah has made such a bold call to action on the following page.

Even if Congress passes the repeal of the 17th Amendment, it still needs to be ratified by 2/3rds of the States to go in affect just as the 21st Amendment.
All of the ignorance involved in this thread, is truly painful. A Republican wants to change The Constitution…and Republicans accuse Democrats of not honoring The Constitution.
Do yerselves a favor, and check out just how many times Republicans have put forth legislation to change The Constitution over the last decade.
Grow up. He can’t change anything. It takes an amendment to change the Constitution. And if the will of the people vote for it then it should be done. The 17th is one of the biggest mistakes and I am sure there was a political agenda pushing it. The 17th Amendment was not part of the original constitution and occurred through the amendment process. Our founders provided a venue for change. The Democrats have tried 8 times to pass legislation to remove the natural born citizen requirement in order to legitimize Obama. The last time in Feb. 2008. When they failed they just hid the truth about him. So lets not put all the blame on Republicans. They are all one in the same party.
The 16th would also be a good candidate for repeal. The BOR was essentially part of the original Constitution document however subsequent amendments have sometimes been impulsive and need to be reviewed. Obviously the 18th was a prime example.
I agree very strongly ! Better do your Research very very well and deeply. For some time Iv been looking in to this my self. No answer yet. Mr Fred McCall is so far somewhat right on. Above me
In a nut shell
What its saying is
Since the 17th ratification your politicians dont belong to the people for the people by the people
Your gov takes subsidiaries for there own pockets to let big companies run your lives
The 17th amendment needs to go back to the peoples control
Not money control
On another note abolish money and become a utopian society
We have the technology to do it
The Senate was supposed to represent the states. The 17th ruined that.
Good luck with this. It will take another amendment to repeal the 17th Amendment, ratified by two-thirds of all the states.
Repeal the 16th while you are in the REPEALING MODE.
Because if they change this one they will try to change the second amendment.Get your heads out off your$#%&!@*
