The Utah Senate asked Congress to repeal the 17th Amendment, which was ratified under the Progressive’s of 1913. Utah has boldly challenged a system that was never the intent of the Founding Fathers and suggests that the 17th Amendment has resulted in Senators being bound to special interest groups, that donate enormous sums of money for the Senator’s re-election, and not representing the needs of the people of Utah.
The bill’s sponsor, Sen. Al Jackson of Utah, believes that Senators need to “come home every weekend and take direction from their state legislative (sic) body and from the House and the Governor on how they should vote in the upcoming week.”
Passing with 20-6 SJR2 was sent to the House. It demands that Congress repeal the 17th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.

I hate when I have brain farts,
Where the start of our malaise began! Subtle indoctrination
The 17th Amendment was never ratified and, therefore, cannot be repealed.
Congress repealing the 17th amendment? It will happen right after pigs fly by the capitol. Call an article V convention of the states instead.
The 14th, 16th, and 17th amendments need to be repealed as they are unconstitutional. The original 13th amendment needs to be reinstated.
one of the best ideas i have heard in a long time. we need to reverse the flow of power away from the states to the fed. the fed has way to much power and it is time we the people take it back. not only do we need to have senators in a position were they are beholden to the state again. their pay and benenfits should come from the states as well. they work for us not the federal govt. not only would that give the strings to pull on the senator back to the state he would make them intirely beholdin to the state they are elected from. they would no longer to be able to vote themselves such nice raises and benefits packages. they dont work for the fed. the fed should not cut their paycheck. along with so many other things this is one the states should have total control over. we keep handing more and more power from the state to the fed it has to stop before it is to late and we the people truely have no say in what happens in our name.
let me guess lisa, life long democrat? must be as you seem to not have any understanding of how these processes work. most democrats are totally lost in this area. just look at out president with a degree in constitutional law that subverts the constitution at any time possible. you can call me crazy, but what about the courts that have overturned every executive order he has written as soon as the lawsuites against said orders reach the courts as being just that unconstitutional. the only law he is associated with that has survived is the ACA. which was totallly sold to the public as not being a tax. yst as soon as it got to the supreme court it was instantly labeled a tax as that was the only way it could possible be constitutional.
The first 10 (the Bill of Rights) can’t be repealed.
The first 10 (the Bill of Rights) can’t be repealed.
The 17th amendment dilutes the power of the republic. It brings the country closer to a democracy which the founding fathers considered to be chaos. The intentional was for the nation to to be a republic.
