The Utah Senate asked Congress to repeal the 17th Amendment, which was ratified under the Progressive’s of 1913. Utah has boldly challenged a system that was never the intent of the Founding Fathers and suggests that the 17th Amendment has resulted in Senators being bound to special interest groups, that donate enormous sums of money for the Senator’s re-election, and not representing the needs of the people of Utah.
The bill’s sponsor, Sen. Al Jackson of Utah, believes that Senators need to “come home every weekend and take direction from their state legislative (sic) body and from the House and the Governor on how they should vote in the upcoming week.”
Passing with 20-6 SJR2 was sent to the House. It demands that Congress repeal the 17th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.
Read a history of the 17th Amendment and why Utah has made such a bold call to action on the following page.
The Senate of the United States shall be composed of two Senators from each state , elected by the people there of , for six years , and each Senator shall have one vote . The elections in eah state shall have the qualifcations requisite for elections of the numerous branch of the stat legislature ! NO ONE MAN or PERSON should have the power to overturn this for his or her own personal gain !
No leave it as is
Alice Knight the main reason The Electoral college was founded in order to give the smaller states more power against the larger more populous states in choosing the POTUS. The second reason was because the founders feared a direct democracy (mob rule). We were founded as a republic, (representative democracy) not a true democracy. They reasoned that thoughtful educated men picked by the electorate (the people) would be better suited in choosing the Commander in Chief, rather than the masses that can be easily manipulated and fooled by a charismatic tyrant.
NO
When and if you did get 37 states together to even consider this, one would think we the people would have a plan of attack of what we wanted repealed, herding cats or holding the tide back with a bucket has a better chance than this getting repealed
you will never get two thirds together even to have a convention, second I have always hated this amendment, third it would be easier to shoot pool with a rope than get 37 states to even agree on a place to meet.
The will of the people is not always the right thing to do. Which is why we have a republic and not a true democracy.
I disagree, there are several ammendment that should be repealed. If this doesn’t happen then it’s going to be nearly impossible to return to a constitutional state.
I know that, ! But what is to stop him ( OBAMA ) from opening up that can of worms ? He wants to riul the world his way . He sounds just like$#%&!@*!
