The Utah Senate asked Congress to repeal the 17th Amendment, which was ratified under the Progressive’s of 1913. Utah has boldly challenged a system that was never the intent of the Founding Fathers and suggests that the 17th Amendment has resulted in Senators being bound to special interest groups, that donate enormous sums of money for the Senator’s re-election, and not representing the needs of the people of Utah.
The bill’s sponsor, Sen. Al Jackson of Utah, believes that Senators need to “come home every weekend and take direction from their state legislative (sic) body and from the House and the Governor on how they should vote in the upcoming week.”
Passing with 20-6 SJR2 was sent to the House. It demands that Congress repeal the 17th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.

The Seventeenth Amendment (Amendment XVII) to the United States Constitution established the popular election of United States Senators by the people of the states. The amendment supersedes Article I, §3, Clauses 1 and 2 of the Constitution, under which senators were elected by state legislatures.
That would take the money out of politics making funding popular campaigns for senate obslete. I will aslo give the state a way and to protect us in the states from federal$#%&!@*
The state needs to balan
ce Congress The people are the House. The state is the Senate . The President, is the Government side of a balance. Do away with lobbyist. Repeal 17 th admen. Restore the bala no ce of power. Give the States back their power.
Robby A Hood How do you think the state legislator gets full ? Local Votes so that gives the choice of senator back with the local states. Instead we have for example, New York politicians pouring money into say Texas to effect elections. If the states get to pick there own senators . The senators are more likely to have the states interest in mind instead of their New York pals who gave him millions or the local Texans that did vote for those who choose ? Make any sense ? Yell me the error in my thinking please
The job of US Senators is to represent their individual state governments, not its citizens.
Roger Hoekstra You sir are 100% correct ….:)
