The Utah Senate asked Congress to repeal the 17th Amendment, which was ratified under the Progressive’s of 1913. Utah has boldly challenged a system that was never the intent of the Founding Fathers and suggests that the 17th Amendment has resulted in Senators being bound to special interest groups, that donate enormous sums of money for the Senator’s re-election, and not representing the needs of the people of Utah.
The bill’s sponsor, Sen. Al Jackson of Utah, believes that Senators need to “come home every weekend and take direction from their state legislative (sic) body and from the House and the Governor on how they should vote in the upcoming week.”
Passing with 20-6 SJR2 was sent to the House. It demands that Congress repeal the 17th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.
Read a history of the 17th Amendment and why Utah has made such a bold call to action on the following page.
But Then They Can Not Steal From The People Who Put Them In Office ! Like Reid , Committed Crimes And No Action Taken , In Nevada !
We don’t touch the Constitution we will boot you out!!!!
Exactly. Congress was the branch of government (the most powerful branch by the way) that represents the people. The Senate was supposed to act as a buffer and Senators appointed by the states to protect the states interests and keep the Federal government from intruding into the affairs of the states. The Utah Senate is 100% correct.
A waste of money…we have telephones people. We can do conference calls…..put on your big boy pants and suck it up!
First and Foremost READ THE Artical!!!
Good this is how the FOUNDERS set it up! Senate should be appointed by the State! It’s State Interests the Senate should be worried about in the first place!
This amendment is half the problem for the run away government we have.
Hope it gets repealed! it was changed in an error of high government corruption. Just like now.
Attention! This is the greatest thing we can do to get special interest out of our Congress and go back to the states. Everyone read and comment!
It is never to late if people don’t just throw their hands up and give up. It takes people that care to work together.
The time is right for the transition! It took 100 years, but it’s enough time to prove that it didn’t work, doesn’t work, and will only get worse if it isn’t restored to the original intent… and that means repealing the 16th too… gotta get power of money back to people too… and further restrict with more laws against a government that would wish to change it again… as far as the national debt is concerned… arrest the banksters for fraud!
Back to the people!
I was referring to Bob’s comment about the second amendment…
As far as the 17th amendment, it was a progressive (communist) way to pervert the intent of the states having the power over the Senate… and not having lobbyists buying off senators through the election process would be a big plus… repealing it would shift power that the federal government has assumed back to the states and effectively the people…
In other words… before the 17th, the states legislative branches “selected” senators, and had the power to take a senator that wasn’t complying with the will of the people(state)…
Now… after… what do you do when a senator doesn’t do what the people who “elected” them to do?
You have to wait them out, is what you do…
You have to wait 6 years to vote them out… and that’s if enough people show up to protest through voting…
