The Utah Senate asked Congress to repeal the 17th Amendment, which was ratified under the Progressive’s of 1913. Utah has boldly challenged a system that was never the intent of the Founding Fathers and suggests that the 17th Amendment has resulted in Senators being bound to special interest groups, that donate enormous sums of money for the Senator’s re-election, and not representing the needs of the people of Utah.
The bill’s sponsor, Sen. Al Jackson of Utah, believes that Senators need to “come home every weekend and take direction from their state legislative (sic) body and from the House and the Governor on how they should vote in the upcoming week.”
Passing with 20-6 SJR2 was sent to the House. It demands that Congress repeal the 17th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.
Read a history of the 17th Amendment and why Utah has made such a bold call to action on the following page.
The constitution has been circumvented by ammendments and statutory law and is all but ignored by our current crop of leaders. Yes, we haven’t done our job as the electorate and stayed involved. Now we’re paying the price. The constitutional principle of a republic is still preferred over a direct democracy.
Shooting pool with a rope is a piece of cake when you know how to do it… you’re thinking with the wrong end… smell the fresh air…
True, but sanity must be regained first.
That’s just ignorant! Ratifying it is the same thing as amending it…
Repealing it would restore the original intent of the framers! And that means keeping the second amendment the way it is, or making the writing more clear for liberals to understand…
Americans will have arms! Like it or not, now deal with it!
don’t start fucking with the Constitution
Absolutely.
It’s the legislative branch of the State… the people…that make the call for the senators to sit or hit the bricks when they’re not doing what they’re supposed to do… we elect representatives, they select senators… you’ve got a problem with a senator, you get the people in your district to complain and the representative will have to do what’s right or himself be replaced… how do you get a senator, who’s not doing their job, out now? You sit them out, and wait for six years to vote them out… that’s what you do… not much accountability…
Crony socialism are the high levels of regulation and taxes and that those that can help fund campaigns to keep people in office for those higher costs of government to price competition out of the market and also to allow them if possible to get exemptions or less burden from those laws.
Leave our governing rules and regs alone, you can’t just obey some and get rid of what you don’t like.
True, what happened we all say now. We created this mess by going to far from the Democratic Republic that the founders created. The question would then be is it to late or is there any hope to take the country back?
