On Dec. 31, 2014 Utah began the process to retake 31.2 million acres of its own land previously under the control of the federal government. Utah consists of 54.3 million acres, so Washington was controlling more than 65% the state.
The “Transfer of Public Lands Act”, signed by Utah Gov. Gary Herbert in 2012, is an unprecedented move that directly challenges the authority of the federal government.
Now, since the reclaim has taken place, Utah is gearing up to fight the feds.
MOVE ON TO PAGE 2:
Yes preserve it while you can I live in Delaware where their is no land left these politicians just keep building and there is no stopping them we live in a very liberal state hear and this is now a city when it used to be mostly agricultural stop them now do not let them take any land
Great!
Hope more western states do the same. It would benefit the citizens of those states greatly.
Way to go Utah. More for the States and less for the goverment!
Its time to tell the feds, We own you! Not the other way.
“Retake”? LOL Instead of letting ALEC lead them around by the nose with BS fantasy arguments [and all for purposes of giving energy companies like Koch an easier access to drilling rights], the people of Utah might consider the documents pertaining to it’s statehood. Simply put, the state of Utah specifically DISCLAIMED any interest in the public lands w/in its borders and from it’s very inception—period.
You are correct in stating Utah can’t retake the lands. The Feds must, however, dispose of them as determined in SCOTUS Pollard v Hagan. Under the equal footing clause the “forever disclaim all right and title” language was deemed unconstitutional. Please read books.
All states need to do this, regain control of land wrongly gained, and trim the government’s feathers of power!!!
You are so right and then they will have WH until election by then WE control what is and not not some politician that says we are stupid. As the states pull out we could sign for each state to rule their state and if they need the other states help we stand together and do what we must!
Because CRAPPY voters voted for him
but don’t exploit the resources.
It totally sucks that the feds control all that land.
