The Pentagon has approved a new policy that will allow troops to wear turbans and other religious clothing and engage in religious observances.
Until now there has been no set policy in the military to allow accommodations for religion.
Soldiers must apply for a waiver to be able to wear their religious garment or engage in a specific religious activity, which the military says they will take on a case-by-case basis.
The Pentagon has approved a new policy that will allow troops to seek waivers to wear religious clothing, seek prayer time or engage in religious practices.Defense officials say the waivers will be decided on a case-by-case basis and will depend on where the service member is stationed and whether the change would affect military readiness or the mission.
Until now there has been no consistent policy across the military to allow accommodations for religion. Now, for example, Jewish troops can seek a waiver to wear a yarmulke, or Sikhs can seek waivers to wear a turban and grow a beard.
Others can request specific prayer times or ask that they be allowed to carry prayer beads or other items.
The policy also says that service members can choose not to recognize any religion, according to NBC News.
According to Defense Department statistics obtained by NBC, there are only three Sikh Americans in the military. There are about 3,700 Muslims. 6,300 Buddhists, and 1,500 Wiccans.
The directive stresses that “the importance of uniformity and adhering to standards, of putting unit before self, is more significant and needs to be carefully evaluated when considering each request for accommodation,” according to NBC.
what is this , where did the regulalation uniform go ir should all be what government
This is a good Idea,… makes a good target! And by the way I’m greasing all my bullets with pig fat!
at least now you know who and what you’re dealing with – and who to keep an eye on
Someone needs to wake up and send these pukes home before they die on American soil!
That’s so despicable.
Then I will “Fall-Out” into formation in full head-dress w/black feathers hanging down my back and my rank in gold attached to the blue crest. We went through the same c**p in the mid to late seventies with blacks and their red, green and black wrist bands… If your a soldier, Marine, Sailor or Airman, you should look like it!!!
Greetings! Racist OZAN! You haven’t got even the slightest clue of what your’e talking about! First, We’re ALL racists! That’s a natural fear of ‘different’ people. SOME of us have been able to quell that with the understanding that humans are humans; the same no matter what color, national origin… etc.. However, those that know this and continue to ‘hate’ people at first site because of these differences, then are themselves totally ignorant, and socially immature. However, ‘before raging…” Really? What about the military rule that says that one CANNOT display any CHRISTIAN religious symbols? Since when did a turbine become part of the soldier’s uniform? Why a turbine, and not a sombrero, or a beret, or the headgear of a Zulu tribesman? Most people see a turbine and think ‘Muslim.’ Do you really think that it was an ‘accident’ that they chose to allow this one ‘religious’ symbol? So, at the end of this, no crosses, pictures of Jesus, no Bibles in sight, no ANYTHING that might identify a soldier as a Christian, but it’s OK to wear any and every other form of religious clothing in the U.S. military? Really? Right like Sally said, “Think UNIFORM.” – ALL ALIKE! We are after all, HUMANS, all ALIKE in THAT respect. Oh, is it OK to feel a little animosity toward those in a large group, that can be identified by their clothing, behavior, and speech, that have as much said that their one purpose as a religious mission is to destroy this country, Christians, and the U.S. and western civilization’s way of life?
So if I am a Catholic or Seventh Day Adventist, I can ignore the military on my holy days.
Whoever thought of this plan must be super sick. oh ya, bet was obummer
Makes the $#%&!@*en rag heads a good target to shoot at !
