In yet another huge blow to our Constitution, the Supreme Court ruled in Jan 2015 that a police officer can violate your 4th Amendment rights if they make a ‘reasonable’ mistake regarding the law.
If you are ignorant of the law, that is no excuse, but if a cop is ignorant of the law, he can violate your rights.
As incredible as it sounds, any cop can ‘play dumb’ and proceed to do anything he wants to you and feel secure that his excuse of ignorance will shield him.
How in the hell can a cop be expected to uphold the law if he doesn’t even know the law?

I have not read the Supreme Court’s decision in full but frankly this sounds nonsense and certainly not what I was taught in grade school, high school, college and law school! How can a sworn police office be excused for violating Fourth Amendment rights based on “ignorance”? This Supreme Court decision will now become the “officer made a mistake”. Don’t take me wrong, I support law enforcement but the founders of this once-great country included these protective rights for a reason. I suspect we will suddenly see many cases where officers will claim, “I didn’t know I couldn’t violate cons$#%&!@*utionally-guaranteed rights against unlawful search and seizure”. I would like to see this opinion modified but with an 8-1 decision, that is not going to happen.
THAT IS RIGHT….POLICE OFFICERS NEED C LASES IN LAW….THE RIGHTS OF THE PUBLIC, AND EXACTLY WHAT THE DIFFERENCES ARE IN RIGHT AND WRONG.
And that is the fear
I want one of those hats
More of Obamas bull$#%&!@* ? I guess we just need to sue them every time they do !
I guess they need to study the law before they are a police officer?
Bs
Then there is only on choice. The choice of our Founders.
if they do not know the LAW they are not police officers and this will turn in to a a great LAWSUIT
Bull c**p
