At over three times the median U.S. household income, this Democratic congressman thinks he and his fellow representatives deserve a raise.
Rep. Jim Moran (D., Va.) told CQ Roll Call members of Congress are “underpaid” and he plans to introduce an amendment to correct the injustice.“I understand that it’s widely felt that they underperform, but the fact is that this is the board of directors for the largest economic entity in the world,” he said.
While that claim is not technically true (the European Union is the largest economic entity in the world), let’s assume for a moment that being on the U.S. “board of directors” should warrant a raise for Congress.
Congressional salaries have been frozen since 2010, but regular members still pull in $174,000 per year – more than triple the 2013 median U.S. household income of $52,000. Leadership positions are compensated higher.
Additionally, the “board of directors” has not exactly been delivering for their “shareholders.” Unemployment remains a staggering 6.7 percent, and the labor participation rate hovers at historical lows.

Boycott the elections. Our government is illegitimate and we need to stop participating in this scam. http://www.popularresistance.org/boycott-corporatocracy-boycott-corrupt-elections/
He is of Social Security age, and that is what his income should be-just like the rest of us, surviving the best we can.
NO they are not underpaid ,they have a lot of “perks ” not mentioned ,and do not have to run for and stay in office for a life time .Don’t like the pay ?? Leave
The original congress didn’t get paid. They had their own businesses and served in congress VOLUNTARILY. Fire them all, set term limits. No more career politicians, EVER!
He’s a MORON!!!
If he a “board of director”, he should be fired for p**s poor performance. Not only are their salaries too high, let’s count all the benefits, from free haircuts & meals, bloated staffs which are overpaid, superior medical & oh yea, full pension. Fire every one of them in November!!
they get way more than they work for and should be cut back and live off want they have already stole from the U.S.A.
No, minimum wage would work for me!!!
No way they all leave millionaires so how can they be under paid. If he’s unhappy go find a real job.
NO. Salary plus valuable perks equals a lot of $$$.
