At over three times the median U.S. household income, this Democratic congressman thinks he and his fellow representatives deserve a raise.
Rep. Jim Moran (D., Va.) told CQ Roll Call members of Congress are “underpaid” and he plans to introduce an amendment to correct the injustice.“I understand that it’s widely felt that they underperform, but the fact is that this is the board of directors for the largest economic entity in the world,” he said.
While that claim is not technically true (the European Union is the largest economic entity in the world), let’s assume for a moment that being on the U.S. “board of directors” should warrant a raise for Congress.
Congressional salaries have been frozen since 2010, but regular members still pull in $174,000 per year – more than triple the 2013 median U.S. household income of $52,000. Leadership positions are compensated higher.
Additionally, the “board of directors” has not exactly been delivering for their “shareholders.” Unemployment remains a staggering 6.7 percent, and the labor participation rate hovers at historical lows.

Way over paid is more like it
If anything thry are overpaid!
Only if they give all the under the table money and kick backs they get to the government. Plus an explanation as to who gave it and what was the favor they had to do. THEN AND ONLY THEN MAYBE WE SHOULD THINK ABOUT IT. On the other hand is we look at the amount of work accomplished maybe they should have a reduction in pay.
no
He should be glad he’s not being paid what he is worth. He wouldn’t work that cheap!!!!!!!!!!!!
Much overpaid,if they don`t like it I am sure there is someone that will do it for less, and most would do a better job.so if you don`t like GTHO.
they should be paid the same as us
Not only are they GROSSLY over-paid, they do absolutely ZERO to help any one but themselves. These thieves should be made to do their jobs for FREE until they start passing bills that help rather than destroy all of us
All while the rest of government, including military, and the retired received 1%. I’ve seen those greedy bastards pull the same $#%&!@* a number of times. In 1979, the military got 3% raise while, with the same piece of legislation, voted themselves a $28,000 pay raise.
no raise at all and to be fair i think the congress should be cut down to minium wage must sign up and pay to regisdter for obama care. then have thiern terms limited to only 4 years and no retirement for them let them suffer the way they make us suffer
