At over three times the median U.S. household income, this Democratic congressman thinks he and his fellow representatives deserve a raise.
Rep. Jim Moran (D., Va.) told CQ Roll Call members of Congress are “underpaid” and he plans to introduce an amendment to correct the injustice.“I understand that it’s widely felt that they underperform, but the fact is that this is the board of directors for the largest economic entity in the world,” he said.
While that claim is not technically true (the European Union is the largest economic entity in the world), let’s assume for a moment that being on the U.S. “board of directors” should warrant a raise for Congress.
Congressional salaries have been frozen since 2010, but regular members still pull in $174,000 per year – more than triple the 2013 median U.S. household income of $52,000. Leadership positions are compensated higher.
Additionally, the “board of directors” has not exactly been delivering for their “shareholders.” Unemployment remains a staggering 6.7 percent, and the labor participation rate hovers at historical lows.

put this jerk on an enlisted mans pay.
Lying crooks
No they are all over paid! !!!! I wished I was making 179,000.00 a year.
No they are not underpaid. They all need to be fired. They are not doing the job they were hired to do, and that is to do the take care of the American people. Not themselves.
If anything they all are over paid they don,t represent the people who voted them in office. Only concern is their own agenda. Poor overpaid politician
rat
You silly jackass. The only raise you deserve is about a 12 inch lift off the floor from somebody’s size 12 shoe. People like you are a very big part of what’s wrong with this country now, and you sure as hell don’t deserve a pay raise. Get out and do your job properly and then let the voters decide whether you and others of your ilk deserve a pay raise.
Hell No! Furthermore they should have to have Obamacare!
NO. They keep giving themselves raises while cutting important programs that affect millions. If they give themselves a raise CUT their benefits and other perks out or give them the benefits/perks the average American gets.
ass hole. you knew what it was when you ran for office. Live with it.
