Ever had to deal with a power blackout during the hot summer months? Then you know just how important keeping cool can be.
Over on The Good Survivalist we found a great tip to save you money and keep you cool:
Seems every year people die due to heat. Keeping your home cool in the summer can be very expensive if you use your air conditioner. This air conditioner is very simple to make, and can be made in a few minutes if you are handy.Even if you are not handy you’ll be able to make one of these DIY air conditioners. One of the nice things about this air conditioner is that it will give you up to 6 hours of coolness. This thing works so well you may need to put on a sweatshirt! To make one of these babies you need a few simple tools, a couple of 5 gallon buckets, along with a few other items. Everything is shown in the video.
Not very effective
Want to cool off my 8’X10′ studio some. It’s pretty insulated so it should help. I’ve sent the idea to my hubby who’s pretty good at this kind of thing. There is another instruct out there that does’t need ice: http://graywolfsurvival.com/2365/how-to-make-a-5-gallon-bucket-air-conditioner/ that I sent to him as well. It uses a submersible pump. We’ll see what he comes up with.
You need a fan to make this work. And the power is out. *smh*
that’s all good, but the issue is when it is 95 to 100 degrees outside and it gets over 82 degrees inside, the only real cooling solution is CHILLED air that comes from water, etc. What this is doing (And I have made one of these to prove a point) is just moving the air that is already coming in the room, which is NOT, I repeat, NOT chilled air. I am not going to be miserable during the summer hours when it is very hot just to save 50 to 75 dollars. I do not have a car payment or a mortgage or kids, so I have NO (0) overhead expenses. But the bigger point is not to be miserable. So although this is a great idea, you are still left with the fact that it is NOT using CHILLED (water, ice, freon, etc) air to cool, which brings the actual temperature down to a cooler more realistic level
Wouldn’t this put out a lot of moisture?
