Kendra Turner, 17, of Dyersburg, Tennessee was suspended because she said ‘bless you’ to another student who sneezed.
It seems that the teacher has a list of words you can’t say in class, and ‘bless you’ is on the list. The teacher told the Turner “Now we will not have godly speaking in my class.”

As an agnostic,this bothers me. People really need to lighten up. Take it for how its meant, gesundeight, bless you, whatever. Who cares!? We have become over sensitive. We have bigger issues to deal with.

The school’s side of the story is, she was talking out of turn in class and the teacher told her to stop. Someone sneezed and she said “Bless You”. So, she was punished for speaking out of turn. It’s the same as if she’d said “Gesundheit.”
Suspension still seems like a harsh punishment for speaking out of turn, but that’s not what people are complaining about. They’re complaining about this crazy persecution complex that Christian conservatives believe in.
