Kendra Turner, 17, of Dyersburg, Tennessee was suspended because she said ‘bless you’ to another student who sneezed.
It seems that the teacher has a list of words you can’t say in class, and ‘bless you’ is on the list. The teacher told the TurnerĀ “Now we will not have godly speaking in my class.”

The teacher should at the very least give a public apology and be suspended without pay for a month if not just plain fired with cause. This is ridiculous and I hope and pray her parents and the community make an issue of it.
Communists teacher. What about freedom of speech….
Unreal!
God Bless and guide the teachers and students in this school. Amen
Fire the teacher! We have the right to free speech in our country!
I do not believe there is any reason for saying “God bless you” after someone sneezes. But there is no reason to prohibit this superstitious saying; nor is there reason to ban quoting God the Father or God the Son!
I believe religion should stay out of public schools, but this would be extreme. But, is this story even true? This site is known for making stuff up.
I would fire the teacher immediately for imposing such a list! It shows her frame of mind and she doesn’t belong in a classroom teaching!
When we had some religion in schools things were different, people showed more respect for one another!
Such archaic phrases as bless you should just be wiped from human dialogue anyway. It’s 2014, and sneezing is still a natural bodily function.
