Liberals subscribe to magical thinking, believing that free college tuition and free health care to illegals will somehow end up a net win for the public. But reality often intrudes on this magical thinking like a big pimple on the end of your nose, and it is painful and unsightly. In this case, the laws of economics are intruding into the magical thinking of liberal politicians in San Francisco (as if there were any other kind there), and it is a growing problem.
San Francisco has declared that the minimum wage in the city, now being replicated in several other fact-challenged cities, will rise to $15 by 2018, and polls there predict happy, better-paid workers who will finally have a “living wage.” They have also insisted that this will not increase inflation and that it will be a boon to the minimum wage worker. That is a lie. And the impact is just now showing up as the first mandated rise from $10.74 to $12.25 is being implemented by certain retailers.
See who is raising prices in San Francisco, page 2:
Not “bare sustainence “
It’s not just the price of a burrito that goes up though. It’s also rent, gas, transport of goods, etc. All suppliers for the burrito chain are going to have the same problem, so they who sells them beef will charge 10% more, the guy who drives the truck will charge 10% more, the guy who picks up their trash will charge 10% more, their landlord (assuming a rental/leased property) will charge 10% more. And why own and operate a business at all if you’re not going to make money doing it?
Remember Hostess? Ask those bakers went on strike because they “weren’t paid enough”, and ended up bankrupting the company and being entirely OUT of a job for some time.
Just proves that Chipotles are a bunch of jerks.
Raising the prices before the minimum wage increase goes into effect indicates it is about profits, not the increase in wages.
The increase in wages just gives them a “reason” (excuse) to raise prices.
The only reason the left wants to increase the minimum is they get more tax revenue.
A lot of people are trying to figure out what they are thinking because it doesn’t make any sense to them. Well then I would ask you this, how many stories have you seen where the restaurant telling everyone they cannot afford to pay people 15 dollars an hour before it happens and then you see restaurants where you walk in and you see a touch screen to place your order , wa – la your$#%&!@*has been replaced by a machine or computer. There is a story about a Pizza Hut that has a robot that takes your order and delivers your food. I don’t think they can replace everyone with such at least for now . So think about that for a moment they can replace all the cashiers with machines so let’s see what is left, someone to cook and a manager. I’m pretty sure that both of those can be replaced in the future as well. So why doesn’t anyone believe the people that actually own a restaurant vs people telling you that they can pay you that, you are well worth it and it will make things better. Has anyone seen a news story where people are now making $15 an hour and nobody got laid off or replaced with the machine. So call me crazy but I think the ultimate goal is to get you laid off.
Ray Charles saw that coming!
A maximum wage would advert this
Have you not noticed food prices have went up? That gets passed on toooooooooo
California will self destruct one day. When that happens, I hope our Federal Government will not save it from itself. Instead, go in and reconstruct a state that aligns with our Constitution and the rest of our country.
Lucky they didn’t raise the prices by 15%
