Liberals subscribe to magical thinking, believing that free college tuition and free health care to illegals will somehow end up a net win for the public. But reality often intrudes on this magical thinking like a big pimple on the end of your nose, and it is painful and unsightly. In this case, the laws of economics are intruding into the magical thinking of liberal politicians in San Francisco (as if there were any other kind there), and it is a growing problem.
San Francisco has declared that the minimum wage in the city, now being replicated in several other fact-challenged cities, will rise to $15 by 2018, and polls there predict happy, better-paid workers who will finally have a “living wage.” They have also insisted that this will not increase inflation and that it will be a boon to the minimum wage worker. That is a lie. And the impact is just now showing up as the first mandated rise from $10.74 to $12.25 is being implemented by certain retailers.

Truth
How do u think these people get rich? They don’t pay their workers$#%&!@*and reap the benefits. Cooperate greed
Awesome, their unemployment will go up. Workers will have to do more work, because of less employees and everything you order will be less food and cost more. Just like when the minimum wage went up twice the past decade. I worked at pizza hut back then. They went to selling 8 wing instead 10 and the price went up on them. Same with the pizza they put less toppings on them now. Also they are using cheaper ingredients. There are plenty of skilled labor jobs available out there, but that is to hard to do. They would actually have to work to get ahead in life.
Chipotle supported the min increase! Hop they all sit and suck on it
You get what you voted for!
Years ago I got a .05 an hour raise and at the end of the week it cost me $1.25 on my check. It put me in a higher tax bracket so I would have been better off without the nickel raise.
Raising the minimum wage is pointless. Its a band aid on a broken economic spine. Some have said that raising the wage will drive inflation. They’re not wrong, but there’s more to this. You see, outsourcing has not only shrunken the job market but the overall money circulating to the middle class. The reason outsourcing became an issue is because import tariff practically disappeared after the free trade agreements and the rise of the WTO. Import tariffs are what protected American workers from criminally cheap labor outsourcing. When those tariffs dropped, so did the safe guard to American workers because the corporations would suffer no loss in profits to do so. What’s more, if the U.S. should raise those tariffs or attempt to pull out of the free trade agreements that are HURTING us, the WTO steps in and slaps our country with economic sanctions. We have Newt Gingrich and Bill Clinton to thank for that mess. Until we can get the outsourcing to stop, bring back the jobs, and discourage the largesse, the woes only continue. Henry Ford proved that paying a living wage puts money back into the economy, but that only works if the money circulates within our economic domain, it can’t. work that way if the money is hemorrahging overseas and into bloated CEO bank accounts.
just points up corporate greed…..increasing minimum wage 14% does not increase their costs 14%….labor is about 30% of their cost..so the actual increase is about 3% or less…..So they will pocket the difference and blame big bad government….Personally if the Dollar Menu at McDonalds has to become the DollarFifty Menu so the workers can feed and house themselves, I’m all for it….
Greta agreed with this conviction.
How about minimum wage workers improve their skills get better jobs and take responsibility for themselves. Just like hundreds of millions that have some personal pride.
