Liberals subscribe to magical thinking, believing that free college tuition and free health care to illegals will somehow end up a net win for the public. But reality often intrudes on this magical thinking like a big pimple on the end of your nose, and it is painful and unsightly. In this case, the laws of economics are intruding into the magical thinking of liberal politicians in San Francisco (as if there were any other kind there), and it is a growing problem.
San Francisco has declared that the minimum wage in the city, now being replicated in several other fact-challenged cities, will rise to $15 by 2018, and polls there predict happy, better-paid workers who will finally have a “living wage.” They have also insisted that this will not increase inflation and that it will be a boon to the minimum wage worker. That is a lie. And the impact is just now showing up as the first mandated rise from $10.74 to $12.25 is being implemented by certain retailers.
See who is raising prices in San Francisco, page 2:
The minimum wage is not the issue here. It’s about jobs being shipped out of this country. Manufacturing has gone away. Telephone customer service has gone away. The minimum wage jobs are being filled by adults who should be working in higher paying jobs. Young first time workers is what the minimum wage jobs are for. These jobs are meant to be stepping stones to advancements as older people who have been working the higher paying jobs leave the job market through retirements. If America will bring jobs back to the usa, minimum wage issue will be solved.
Funny.
Someone has to pay for it!!!
They gotta do what they gotta do. If they want to remain profitable, they have to raise prices when rent ,utilities, or raw materials go up. So what’s new. Now, if they want to take a small hit on their profit like most of their employees have been doing all along in the face of rising prices, then they can hold prices as they are for awhile.
You realize the average age for people working in fast food is now 29 years old. And i agree everybody should try to improve themself for a better paying job. But some people are just not wired like that, like it or not. Being that a lot of people work at minimum wage jobs those jobs are turning into more than just starter jobs. Go to McDonald’s look at the 16 y.o. counter help then look at the people working the kitchen they are 10-12 years older than the counter help. Minimum wage was obviously not meant to be a living wage but guess what? It is for a lot of people….like it or not…….greed is ugly and it’s going to kill this country. I’m not not against wealth but how much is enough?
So the price of burrito goes up 10 percent and thousand of people have 14 percent more purchasing power. It seems like that is a win for minimum wage workers and at worst a very slight loss to everyone else. Why is this so bad
The minimum wage increase is not restricted to employees of big corporations who are making record profits. It hits all businesses. And most cannot afford the increase cost of labor without increasing their prices.
Watch people not go to chipotle because their prices are too high and the. Watch chipotle start using other ways to serve their customers and watch the layoffs and the part time work come into effect
Minimum wage increase or not prices go up anyway and that is a fact. Where I live their is a chain of barbecue resturants. 93 locations and it’s fast food in the same sense as McDonald’s just different food. Much smaller than McDonald’s ,burger king. I can guarantee you a higher food cost than mcdonalds but priced only slightly higher than McDonald’s. Most popular plate is 1/4 pound of brisket 2 sides tea 7.50$ they start everybody at 10.25$ an hour. Offer money for employees to go to college and reasonably priced health insurance. How can such a company so much smaller than McDonald’s burger king Wendy’s taco bell KFC do this? Because this hooey about labor cost is the result of greed. I live in South Texas and the man that owns that chain is still wealthy and not greedy POS…….
Such a smokescreen! They are closing hundreds of stores over the next few years and were way before minimum wage hike. They have been in the news what feels like weekly for bacteria in their food and have to had some pretty lengthy shut downs at a ton of their stores and between the terrible press, lawsuits and shut downs and over saturating he market which some Chipotle execs have been bitching about for years, this was happening no matter what
