Liberals subscribe to magical thinking, believing that free college tuition and free health care to illegals will somehow end up a net win for the public. But reality often intrudes on this magical thinking like a big pimple on the end of your nose, and it is painful and unsightly. In this case, the laws of economics are intruding into the magical thinking of liberal politicians in San Francisco (as if there were any other kind there), and it is a growing problem.
San Francisco has declared that the minimum wage in the city, now being replicated in several other fact-challenged cities, will rise to $15 by 2018, and polls there predict happy, better-paid workers who will finally have a “living wage.” They have also insisted that this will not increase inflation and that it will be a boon to the minimum wage worker. That is a lie. And the impact is just now showing up as the first mandated rise from $10.74 to $12.25 is being implemented by certain retailers.
See who is raising prices in San Francisco, page 2:
That’s unfortunate …
What a moron…. SS is TAKEN from our checks. We don’t give it freely.
There’s only one winner when the giver met raises the min wage. That’s the government. Income tax and other handouts are based on a persons income. You creat inflation. Peoples incomes go up and as a result the percentage of taxes collected goes up. Meanwhile people find their cost of living goes up which means if they are lucky they have no gain in their real income. Typically they’ll have a loss due to the increased tax bracket. The real losers are retired and other people on a fixed income. For them their income drops.

Lately I have been side inch more with the right but this article is kinda stupid and missed the point. Eating out is a luxury having a job is not. If they go up equally then it seems zero sum, except those who need money for food to eat in can and those who CHOOSE to eat out can also. The the opposite (low wages) means more can eat out yes but less overall can eat. The moral choice is to raise wages.
What did you think was going to happen when you raise minimum wage like that? The cost of living will go up by just as much.
Actually debtors win in this situation.
If wages and prices double you are no better off, that is true. But if you owe 200,000 on a house with 50,000 in student loans and then wages and prices double, your debts just got cut in half.
This is why creditors (primarily the old and rich) hate inflation and debtors (the young, middle and lower classes) like inflation.
Granted out of control inflation causes problems but modestly higher rate of inflation is basically a transfer of wealth from creditors to debtors.
this moron worked for 45 yrs for his ss..
Wages have been stagnant for 20 years while everything we need/consume has skyrocketed, please explain. Something has to give. It’s either low wages with Gov’t support or living wages, you can’t have it both ways.
Wages are not stagnant. People who are unwilling to move to better jobs are stagnant
