Liberals subscribe to magical thinking, believing that free college tuition and free health care to illegals will somehow end up a net win for the public. But reality often intrudes on this magical thinking like a big pimple on the end of your nose, and it is painful and unsightly. In this case, the laws of economics are intruding into the magical thinking of liberal politicians in San Francisco (as if there were any other kind there), and it is a growing problem.
San Francisco has declared that the minimum wage in the city, now being replicated in several other fact-challenged cities, will rise to $15 by 2018, and polls there predict happy, better-paid workers who will finally have a “living wage.” They have also insisted that this will not increase inflation and that it will be a boon to the minimum wage worker. That is a lie. And the impact is just now showing up as the first mandated rise from $10.74 to $12.25 is being implemented by certain retailers.
See who is raising prices in San Francisco, page 2:
I was about to say where did I say minumum wage should be 22 an hour?
If kept with inflation the national average should be 11.50 an hour and adjusted for cost of living in different states.
You got excited that you “caught tge liberal” but alas Im not an idiot and understand reasonable things. 22 an hour is just plain stupid, and not what the pay should be vs inflation.
Wow, what surprise. I guess Chipotle is just another money grubbing company.
If socialism was a bad thing, then why do CEO’s of a lot of companies go to the government for tax breaks, incentives, loopholes, and taxpayer money in general? If capitalism is the cure all to the economy and finances, why would CEO’s and companies need or want to? Chew on that one Ray.
Because we have crony capitalism – since politicians went pro.
Mr. Ray, so you go after people who may only because of health or mental disabilities get a meniel job huh. People who make minimal wage now & after they get that raise will put every penny back into our economy to boost it, where these dregs that sit in Corporate cubicles put 1/3 of it back if that. You need to take a course on economics son.
Your welcome Einstein. …..
I find it funny how people keep defending these corporate interests that don’t give 2 shits about you. Think about it. These automated processes and way to cut labor have been being developed for years. Way before the $15 an hour minimum wage fight. Now that the wage is being considered, it gives them an excuse to start using them. They don’t realize that once they get them in there, they will have to pay to maintain them. What if their machines get vandalized, or break on their own? No money, and increased cost to fix. No revenue until it is fixed. What if the company loses power in a storm. No money until the power comes back on. I think the net effect will actually hurt businesses. People can still work when the power goes out. People are cheaper to replace than a broken machine.
On another note. A higher minimum wage doesn’t just affect “no skilled burger flippers in entry level jobs for high school kids”. The wages will go up for nurses, firefighters, paramedics, construction workers, and anyone with a trade or a degree that works for less than $15 an hour. It goes across the board. Nobody thinks about that though. It is easier to demonize people though, and just go with the stupid ignorance that is spouted from both side of the argument. It just kills me that the rich on both sides keep us fighting and divided, while they laugh all the way to the bank with ever increasing salaries, bonuses, and profits. Welcome to America. Land of the ignorant, and home of the slave. This is why we can’t have nice things.
Do you pay your employers 15 an hour .
Byron feel free to read above. Ive thoroughly discussed the pay and what I think about the 15 an hr minimum wage.
