Liberals subscribe to magical thinking, believing that free college tuition and free health care to illegals will somehow end up a net win for the public. But reality often intrudes on this magical thinking like a big pimple on the end of your nose, and it is painful and unsightly. In this case, the laws of economics are intruding into the magical thinking of liberal politicians in San Francisco (as if there were any other kind there), and it is a growing problem.
San Francisco has declared that the minimum wage in the city, now being replicated in several other fact-challenged cities, will rise to $15 by 2018, and polls there predict happy, better-paid workers who will finally have a “living wage.” They have also insisted that this will not increase inflation and that it will be a boon to the minimum wage worker. That is a lie. And the impact is just now showing up as the first mandated rise from $10.74 to $12.25 is being implemented by certain retailers.
See who is raising prices in San Francisco, page 2:
nope didn’t see that happening. (sarcasm) There goes more jobs
The people who take low cost wages for life time employment have zero interest in doing anything with their lives. Many people who are reading this, most likely had a minimum wage job while going to college, trade school, etc. From my own experience, I worked many low wage jobs putting myself thru college. Working these low level wage jobs only motivated me more to complete college. The whiners who think they should be paid $15/ hr with only a high school diploma or dropped out of school is ludicrous. It is like saying you want to graduate from high school after the third grade. In the USA, you can be what you desire – but it takes effort and sacrifices on your part.
I love how the CEOs are being attacked. They make to much, they don’t deserve it, make them pay more taxes. I’m not a CEO or rich, but if it wasn’t for those people taking risks and investing in these food chains, there wouldn’t be places to use EBT cards! Let that sink in…
Idiots
Only a complete fucking idiot didn’t see this and, believe me, much worse coming.
You business experts keep talking about Walmart, Chipotle, and the like. Most companies are small businesses. As one of those Corps, in the food business, I KNOW what happens. We work very hard for small profits (avg .04 on the dollar). Jack minimum wage up and prices continue to rise. By the time the entry level worker that now makes $15 pays his new taxes, pays more for groceries, pays more to go out, etc – he is simply now broke on a higher level. Meanwhile the rich still are filthy rich and you dumbshits that support higher minimums and are middle class just lost. Where does this b******t thinking come from where somehow if the successful rich people weren’t so rich, it would end up in you pocket? A minimum wage Chipotle worker couldn’t handle being a CEO for 5 minutes! It’s just a stepping stone job. Work your way up and get yours. Nobody owes you jack squat!
The net gain for them is votes, that’s what it’s all about.
That’s probably true. But 90% of us in the business of food/hospitality are not McDonalds. But with entry level high school dropouts making $15, soon ALL businesses will be big business that can afford it. Not an opinion, it’s how I feed my family. The small guy can’t compete and, as we’ve seen, they go away. Pretty soon all we need will come from Walmart, Costco, and the like.
Here’s the other side of the coin Jack in the Box put those machines in and took them out. Reason they took them out in the customers couldn’t figure out how to order it was too complicated. There are a lot of people who are computer illiterate and do not know how to use the screen and too many orders are being made wrong I think it’s going down the wrong path. But on the other side of the coin we had the revolution when everything became automated and Industry years ago everyone said she would keep people out of work it turned out more people making the machine servicing machines. But I see a big problem with user interfaces on the machine
Most of us in food business are not McDonalds!! Yes, they will survive. The little guy won’t. Mathematically minimum would be $22 you say? Well making $22 is not hard at all in most states. Apply yourself at all and it’s no issue. You dealt directly with many fast food workers? Work ethic can’t be bought. Raise them to $15, most will be let go for better skilled workers. Not sure WTF the kids are gonna do for work, but we in the industry will not deal with their$#%&!@*anymore.
