Rand Paul is completely correct, of course, that there is no need for bayonets in local law enforcement. Bayonets are for hand-to-hand combat in battle and the only purpose is to kill.

Basically ‘coz they look really scary. Not much practical use (I’d imagine) unless you’re out of ammo. It’s a bit like the armored tanks they’ve got in these small towns. You can’t actually fire the main gun without blowing up half the town, but it makes the right impression when you’re collecting taxes!
