If a new poll is to be believed, Donald Trump has earned the support of one of the most coveted voting demographics.
After surveying 931 members of the armed forces, researchers found that out of all the candidates running for president in both parties, Trump was the preferred choice for the majority of them. A solid 27% of the survey’s respondents said he was their favorite candidate, with his closest rival being socialist Democrat Bernie Sanders who came in at 22%.
More specifically, Trump enjoyed high levels of support from the Army and Marines, both of which saw 30% of respondents listing him as their choice. Although he wasn’t the preferred choice of respondents in the Air Force or Navy, he still had significant levels of support, with the branches having 23.58% and 22.35% of their members favoring him respectively.
The numbers are a major boon to Trump, who has been hounded by critics for his relative lack of foreign experience. Earning such impressive levels of support from servicemen will undoubtedly help him mute such attacks.

Although Trump may lack traditional foreign policy credentials, the men and women of the military seem to think that he has a strong grasp on the subject and can be counted on to look out for the country’s best interests. Gaining the support of such an esteemed group alone is a worthy accomplishment for anyone seeking the presidency:
“The data seems to indicate that the GOP national security establishment’s attempt to discredit Trump’s foreign policy credibility has failed — at least as far as servicemembers are concerned.
Trump’s hardline stances on national security issues appear to have attracted dedicated support from members of the military, though several military officials have complained about his aggressive statements on torture and the killing of terrorists’ families, which Trump had to walk back.
Officers surveyed still favor Trump, albeit by a smaller margin than regular enlisted troops. Officers ranked Trump first with 21 percent support and Cruz second with 18 percent.
And even though Sanders has also been perceived as weak on foreign policy, that fact hasn’t hurt his polling numbers among servicemembers.
Despite Sen. Marco Rubio’s attempts to prioritize foreign policy in his platform and despite the Republican national security establishment essentially throwing all of its might behind his campaign, he ranks second to last in the survey.”

Maybe times have changed but I’m sure you need to take your rose colored glasses off
First, nobody directly tells you how to vote. They do help you with registration and absentee ballots. That is all true. But as a 20 year serviceman I can tell you when elections come up it is commonly discussed why you must not vote democrat. If you are a democrat and mention it out loud you are shouted down. Officers and senior enlisted will tell you they are not interested in swaying your vote but they will also talk openly about why you should vote republican. They are the party of military spending. They are the party of war. This means more opportunity for advancement. It is the absolute truth. I loved it for 20 years. All of my fellow sailors but one (that I know of) vote republican still today. It is an indoctrination plain and simple. The fact that so many are supporting Sanders openly is astounding.
As for Trump and his success. That is determined by what you consider success. It has been said by several money people that if he had simply invested his inheritance he would have more wealth today than he does now. If he had done nothing but watch it grow. Instead he has several failed enterprises including his ridiculous steak company sold exclusively them rough Sharper Image who said “We didn’t sell very many steaks”. His magazine. His airline which went under and was sold off in pieces. His four bankruptcies while attempting to run casinos. If you can’t make money with a casino then you are a bad businessman. He couldn’t do it four times. Trump vodka. Trump college which is now in a huge lawsuit for being a fraud. Everything he has ever done is smoke and mirrors. His little display at his press conference the other night with all of those products. None of them were his. It was all made up. If you see a building with his name on it is more likely than not there because he bought the licensing rights to put it there. He doesn’t own the buildings. Just puts his name on them.
When asked about his 10 million dollar worth and to explain where it is he said this. ” The Trump brand, in my opinion, is worth 5 billion”. He just made up half of his worth. It doesn’t exist. I think my name is worth 10 billion, now I am twice as successful as he is? Come on. Look into your guy for more that a shiny name on a building, a loud mouth and a bad toupee. He is a clown. He was given everything he has. He is not a great businessman. He is pretty average for a guy who is constantly in business. You want to see a great businessman look no further than Mark Cuban. Look at Sam Walton (when he was alive). Mark Zuckerburg. Bill Gates. Warren Buffet. These are great businessmen. Learn something before you comment.
Tom Weaver It’s historical fact. I don’t have to look up Robert Byrd. My minor is in Political Science.
Rick Van Harn, No you want except the truth…
Rose colored glasses, do you mean difference in opinion or experiences?
Truth is the military loved Regan I was there. Now it’s obama getting rid of anyone who knows to much. They hate him for what he’s doing to yhrm.
Keri Gregory, Most of the Military is Conservatives, it wasn’t Obama who lied them into the Iraq war, the creation of ISIL, destabilizing the Middle East, emboldened Iran & remember it wasn’t Dems who voted against several veterans benefits bills until they were shamed into voting for Bernie Sanders sponsored bill & it wasn’t Obama who stole 1.37 trillion from social security & never replaced it to pay for his first round of tax cuts, or lost 8 million jobs, – 646,000 were private sector & millions of American households lost a 3rd of its wealth… And remember Southern whites in rural areas & military families are not only the core of the GOP base, but also the majority of the 47%….
Meh. I’ve been in for 21 years now, but we’re less than 1% of the population and a pretty large percentage of the 1% don’t vote anyway.
Josh Strigle, More intelligent branchesHaha. The majority of the AF and Navy still selected Trump in the poll. I guess you missed that part, Mr Retired AF.
