The Democrats just never get tired of trying to promote gun control to gun owners and failing miserably. Of course, this is because many of them simply can’t relate to them, as was made painfully apparent this weekend.
Speaking at the NBC/Youtube Democratic debate on Sunday, former Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley defended his position on gun control by touting his relationship with gun owners. Attempting to defend his anti-Second Amendment record, O’Malley claimed that he’s, “never met a self-respecting deer hunter that needed an AR-15 to down a deer.”
Setting aside the unlikelihood of his claim that he regularly fraternizes with gun owners and deer hunters, O’Malley’s statement is stupefying. Yes, maybe deer hunters don’t need AR-15’s to shoot deer, but have you considered the possibility that maybe, just maybe, they need them to defend themselves?
To be fair, O’Malley, with his well-trained security escorts, probably doesn’t understand why anybody would need an AR-15 to protect themselves and their family. It should, however, keep him from opening his mouth on topics that he has little understanding of.

It’s not going to make it to elections. Obama has set fourth his agenda and fired the first round of the next revolutionary war
I’m sure that he has one protecting his deer$#%&!@*
The people who hunt deer are also the people that will protect our country from invaders and threats both foreign and domestic. Leave our guns alone.
We should be allowed to legally own fully automatic firearms, if we so choose; without a special permit. The 2nd Amendment is designed not for hunters, but to protect our way of life from those willing to infringe on our rights. “I prefer dangerous freedom over peaceful servitude” TJ…
AMEN!
These are the kind of people that need there head bounced off the Bill Of Rights! HARD!
The second amendment wasn’t put into place to preserve our deer hunting rights, it’s there to protect ourselves from the government.
We need then to bust people’s$#%&!@*like him
When Eugene Stoner first introduced the AR 15 rifle it was chambered in the .308 cartridge. The whiz kids under Mcnamara decided they wanted a smaller cartridge so soldiers could carry more ammo, and Stoner then produced it in .223/5.56mm.
The AR 10 is produced in the .308 caliber, while the AR family is mainly in 5.56, although now, there are other calibers available for it by switching out the upper receiver assembly. So the best answer is that while very similar, the ar 10 components are larger.
