This Executive Action effectively banned ammunition for the top-selling AR-15-style semi-automatic rifle and labeled the particular ammo as ‘cop killers’.
No doubt expecting resistance to the unilateral order the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives aimed to put the ban of 5.56mm ‘green tip’ ammo on a fast-track. News of the ban drove a massive increase in demand for the ammunition, up to 1,000% of what it was prior to the Executive Order. Prices jumped in reaction, by up to 30% in response to the sudden demand and dwindling stocks.
