As the Obama Administration prepares to tighten access to guns, the President met Wednesday with former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg to help complete the executive order that would expand background checks on gun sales while closing the “gun show loophole”.
Bloomberg is only one of many gun control advocates the president has met with in recent weeks. The order, which is currently caught in a web of legal and administrative questions is currently without a timeline.
However, even as he works to chip away at another constitutional right, a new survey is showing falling support for a ban on assault weapons, which both Obama and Bloomberg are currently advocating as a means to prevent gun-related deaths. Hillary Clinton also pushed for an assault ban during a campaign speech earlier this week.
In the wake of the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre in Connecticut, Bloomberg’s Mayors Against Illegal Guns group turned into Everytown for Gun Safety with the expectations of being able to stand against the NRA. The group spent millions, most of which came from Bloomberg’s own fortune, only to fall just short of their goals on several different occasions.

The US Supreme Court affirmed the Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit in Heller v. District of Columbia 554 US 570 (2008) and McDonald vs Chicago (2010) where both courts upheld an individual’s Second Amendment Right to own a firearm for self defense in the home! Look it up! This is Landmark US Case Law! The Majority of the Justices in this case “Agreed that The Second Amendment protects those weapons “typically” possessed by law-abiding citizens for lawful purposes”! Protecting your home against intruders as well as tyrannical governments “shall not be infringed”! Looks like we all need to ” Typically Own” assault firearms and form Militias as the Justices did cite “the absence of militias”!?!?!?
The 2A is a measure to ensure a balance of power between government and the governed. The government doesn’t need any rights to wield power. The 2A also does not ensure people’s right to self defense. What it does do is tie the hands of goverment from intruding on the citizen’s inalienable right to self defense from aggression in any form, whether by a single actor or an overreaching government. The bulk of over 20,000 gun laws currently on the books are unconstitutional but because of the people’s silence, they were approved and passed into law because of our implied consent.
