Obama Did Not Vet Hundreds of Thousands of DACA Beneficiaries

This week, the Trump administration announced an end to DACA, an Obama-era program that allowed illegal immigrants who were brought to the country as children to work and live legally in the United States.

There were many reasons why DACA had to end. The program, which ignored immigration law and was enacted by executive order, was almost certainly unconstitutional. Before it was implemented, Obama had gone on the record several times claiming that he did not have the autority to grant amnesty without congressional approval.

DACA was also about to be challenged by several state attorneys general — which would have likely ended in an abrupt and disorderly end to the program once it the courts issued a ruling. It would have been a mess for both the DACA beneficiaries and the Trump administration.

But the biggest issue may be one that nobody is talking about.
