Terms like an “electromagnetic pulse” often leave people scratching their heads, or perhaps they just tune out because they don’t know what an EMP is, how it would happen, and what the impact would be. This is definitely the case of the importance of preventing a disaster being far more important than dealing with the aftermath, because mitigating the effects of one would be almost impossible.
An EMP attack of sufficient power results in the destruction of the power-grid, of that system of moving electricity for the sources of its generation to homes and offices. Were one to occur, the electricity would go out for one year or more. And that’s the scary part.

North Korea has a satellite in orbit that serves no purpose. US intelligence believes it holds nuclear missiles. It’s ridiculous that we can send billions upon billions of dollars to other countries but we cannot upgrade our power grid to sustain a EMP attack.
