Democrat and Republican liberals alike often excoriate those who think that welfare programs should not be parceled out indiscriminately, but should require something from the recipients. Back when Bill Clinton was fighting impeachment, he actually signed on to a welfare for work program, and amazingly, the welfare roles shrank!
It turns out that if people can get stuff for free, without having to do anything for it, they will. That should not be a surprise. The other thing liberals will have us believe is that welfare recipients have no responsibility for their situation. While that is certainly true in some cases, there are many more that result from poor decisions and behavior.
Starting late last year, North Carolina began requiring drug testing of new applicants for a state welfare program. A number of politicians decried the requirement as unfair, saying that it was too costly, and that it was onerous to those who would be required to take the test. The test was not universal and applied only to one program, but the results were quite surprising.

Nicholas Mossuto My comments were made only to point out facts – something that is lacking in American politics. As for the sodas and junk foods, I agree 100%. Fact: A couple of years ago during a SNAP funding Bill a legislator introduced an amendment to cut out such c**p, and the junk food lobby and his fellow Republicans were ready to hang him from the Washington Monument. Our voices go unheard, in Washington these days only $ talks.
I drug test any potential employee in office…lots of $$to be saved by doing this and it’s fair if people who work for thier $have to be tested
Frank you are right. It has been proved that it was sort of a waste of money.
Only one time in my life (50 years ago) did I have to apply for welfare. I was working two jobs supporting myself and daughter. One job was paying rent, food, insurance, babysitting , and utilities The other paying for doctor, medicine , checkups for a child with extreme eczema. At one of my jobs, I passed out. Was advised from the ER Doctor I had to give up one of my jobs, or next time I was dead. Guess what I did?? You got it, quit one of my jobs and applied for welfare. Went in, said I don’t want your money, just medical care for my child. When I was “healthy” again, got off the dole. I do not understand these people who have made welfare a career!!! NO One is too fat, too beautiful, too busty, too whatever to work. Welfare, check into these freeloaders and make them responsible for themselves.
Best idea ever

91 out of 157 failed for the program for drug use, I would say that is not a waste of money but in fact a positive way to give real need families what they need rather than freeing up extra money for drugs. The reason they can not provide for their responsibilities is because they are spending the money on wants instead of needs. You need to pay your bills, provide shelter and food for your children, not spend all your money on dope and let the government pay for YOUR responsibilities.
I so love this idea.
Bullcrap. F**e news at its most destructive and malicious.
Not just what they are doing with their bodies. Our concern is for the children. If dope is more important to the parent, the providing food and care. There is a problem. The money is to be used to ensure the children are taken care of not the parent to be selfish.
