Democrat and Republican liberals alike often excoriate those who think that welfare programs should not be parceled out indiscriminately, but should require something from the recipients. Back when Bill Clinton was fighting impeachment, he actually signed on to a welfare for work program, and amazingly, the welfare roles shrank!
It turns out that if people can get stuff for free, without having to do anything for it, they will. That should not be a surprise. The other thing liberals will have us believe is that welfare recipients have no responsibility for their situation. While that is certainly true in some cases, there are many more that result from poor decisions and behavior.
Starting late last year, North Carolina began requiring drug testing of new applicants for a state welfare program. A number of politicians decried the requirement as unfair, saying that it was too costly, and that it was onerous to those who would be required to take the test. The test was not universal and applied only to one program, but the results were quite surprising.

Sir let’s not add to the policy to make it sound better treatment is not being offered nor was it offered in the other states that initiated the program and later ended it because again the policy was “Not Cost Effective”. What I suggested is to not trip balls over a very few that use drugs and get food stamps it’s not that significant if a problem as revealed by the previous states and studies conducted. I guess I could adopt your position and just say spend more money to save a pittance, or we could accept reality and the reality is that people can simply not use before you renew and apply for food stamps or tanf, all people have to do is not use prior to coming in the only drug that stays in the body longer than 3-4 days is marijuana and all you have to do is dilute your creatine by drinking a lot of water boy the government is si smart. You complain of wasting tax dollars but yet you waster them
I don’t think you folks understand the problem is people in general. I say today eating lunch at a soup kitchen and over heard a man say he had $300 for a room he needed to find, as he was out in the cold and wanted a heated room. I leaned over and said pardon me but that is not much money for a room. He said that is all SS gave him. I being who I am, said what kind of work do you do. He says I don’t work. I says Salvation Army has a sign up looking for a driver. He says “I ain’t working for nothing that I don’t like”…. I say what do you like… He says… I like to cut hair…. I say why are not working, he says I have no cuts….(tools of the hair trade.)… Oh ,,, says I… Perhaps the local charities will help you….. Yeah right says he and returns to eating his meat burritos, the soup kitchen was serving today…. Now he was NOT on drugs….. He just doesn’t want to work, unless he “cuts”.
BTW this is a very bios picture…. Hispanic women and men are very hard working.
When you go make sure you are really high,if they are going to test you might as well have something to find. That way they can say I earned my pay today. Then they can go home and get high, they no they will not be tested!!!
If they do test positive, they should loose all benefits, for life, not just a month.
