There is little structural steel at the outside walls. These buildings were built around a central core. Steal beams on the outside walls are 20′ apart. In between is glass, tin can framing and drywall. You can take the glass out with a hammer and the walls with your fist. It’s all vert light weight materials when on end support a lot of weight but very weak in the middle and will bend easily.
Think about this in a tornado a piece of straw will go thru 5/8 plywood from wind speeds around 120mph. Aluminum is much stronger. Then at 500 mph, you do the math. Then the fuel burning hot enough to bend the steel with all that weight on it. Down it comes
