Jay Familglietti, NASA’s top water scientist, recently warned that California has only a year’s supply of water left in storage facilities and the backup groundwater is rapidly depleting. Despite this harrowing fact, California has no backup plan to address this crisis.
“California has no contingency plan for a persistent drought like this one (let alone a 20-plus-year mega-drought), except, apparently, staying in emergency mode and praying for rain,” stated Familglietti. “In short, we have no paddle to navigate this crisis.”
UPDATE: California Gov. Jerry Brown issues ineffectual, mandatory water restriction as one-third of our nation’s crops are threatened. See Page 3 for updates.
MOVE TO PAGE 2:.

There has to be a voice for Northern California. Over fifty inches of rain has fallen in eastern Butte County over twenty five inches in areas in and around Oroville, All our local streams and ponds are full. The aquifers are locally filling and in many cases not at threat. While there is no snow pack which really means the people who live south of the delta, on the coast and even worse south of the Grapevine are in trouble. How about this you people need to pay more for our water. You need to conserve while we wash our cars and water our lawns. We do not live in a desert you do.
Can anyone else say “drop in a bucket?”
has lots of water , in the ocen ,procees it
Keep importing illegal aliens by the millions, then give them public aide and drivers licenses so they stick around! Smart, very smart.
Maybe they need to stop flushing millions of gallons of fresh water out to sea to save some fish…and drink it instead… oh wait… forgot, we have the EPA so fish are more important than people
$#%&!@* em!
You can thank the EPA, and ex-governor Flex “I’m-kind-of-a-Republican-but-married-a-Kennedy” Armstrong. California deserves this, and personally, I’m stoked that it’s happening.
Have you ever seen the state legislature ??? It’s really sad…
Anthony you hit it right on the head. I fly over the Sierras quite often in my little airplane. They could literally build hundreds if not thousands of Reservoirs to store water. The problem is not the drought. It’s the people who don’t want a reservoir in their back yard.
Elect a few more democrats , these people did not expand there water reservoirs and water storage because of destroying a few birds and bugs , they built sewer lines every where when a less wasteful form of disposal should have been used sewers take billions of gallons of water . Poor management and leader ship took the state into this mess , all in the name of environmental protection , now these idiots are so protected they are dieing of thirst . Another job well done by the environmental $#%&!@*’s
