Jay Familglietti, NASA’s top water scientist, recently warned that California has only a year’s supply of water left in storage facilities and the backup groundwater is rapidly depleting. Despite this harrowing fact, California has no backup plan to address this crisis.
“California has no contingency plan for a persistent drought like this one (let alone a 20-plus-year mega-drought), except, apparently, staying in emergency mode and praying for rain,” stated Familglietti. “In short, we have no paddle to navigate this crisis.”
UPDATE: California Gov. Jerry Brown issues ineffectual, mandatory water restriction as one-third of our nation’s crops are threatened. See Page 3 for updates.

Just have to love Karma. Grow crops in an area that dosen’t have enough water to support them naturally to begin with. Read an article the other day where the population is decling there. Hummmm
Lately Chip that has changed dramatically. I live in the Central Valley of CA where much of your food is grown. You will see less almonds, walnuts, grapes (and wine) garlic, asparagus and olives… Thanks to our stupid repeat Gov. Brown and his moron buddies (Feinstein, Boxer and Pelosi) who are all anti-farmer we have had our water flows cut by 60% over the last 2 years. This year farmers are tearing out orchards and not planting because they cannot water their crops. Some are just selling their well water and enormous rates to Southern CA. By the way Southern CA gets most of their water from us. There are a lot of “Working People” in the Valley that completely disagree with our current governmental morons…but in the end, everyone will pay the price. Higher water prices for many and higher food prices for anyone that buys foods grown here. We pray for rain..and there is good news from NOAA…we are in the beginning of a building El Nino…that means more water and probably flooding in 2015 & 2016. Oh the life in CA….don’t believe the post cards! 🙂
Actually Helen they are working on one big desalinization plant in Santa Barbara area. Sadly by the time they get it running we’ll have an El Nino and not need it again. That’s what happened in the late 90’s when it was built. They walked away from it and left it in ruins until this year when they decided maybe we should finish that project after all. Time will tell what happens with it but there is another planned for an area closer to So. Cal where they need the water. If So Cal and No Cal would quit building…we’d be better off. We are already losing farm lands which will have a cost to everyone that buys foods grown here. 🙁
Thank you crazy liberal “save the fishy” mo-tards.
so why aren’t they desalinating like Israel does???
GOOD HOPE THAT DUMP DRIES UP !!
Apparently all their drainage for rainfall go to the ocean. How about redirecting it?
wow
$#%&!@* you
Three reservoirs have been built since about 1983 according to the CA State Government.
