Jay Familglietti, NASA’s top water scientist, recently warned that California has only a year’s supply of water left in storage facilities and the backup groundwater is rapidly depleting. Despite this harrowing fact, California has no backup plan to address this crisis.
“California has no contingency plan for a persistent drought like this one (let alone a 20-plus-year mega-drought), except, apparently, staying in emergency mode and praying for rain,” stated Familglietti. “In short, we have no paddle to navigate this crisis.”
UPDATE: California Gov. Jerry Brown issues ineffectual, mandatory water restriction as one-third of our nation’s crops are threatened. See Page 3 for updates.

Hi there, even tho our bodies are 90%+ sea water, we can’t drink it.
you know San Diego is the largest producer of Avocados in the world. Avacados are a great food, they aren’t for the super rich, they are very healthy to eat. In San Diego, we do not produce a lot of wine (some, yes, but not like Napa). I Don’t agree with turning Imperial Valley into agriculture land, it was a desert. I ESPECIALLY cringed when I learned that this desert valley, exempt from water rationing, is where they grow the turf for NBA diamonds. Why the hell wouldn’t each State/city produce gr$#%&!@* that is acclimated to the region the games are played in? And yes I live here, but as soon as my better half retires I am going to leave this backwards liberal State for conservative parts elsewhere. UNTIL THEN I have to put up with these ridiculous laws. Like my neighbor can burn as much wood in his backyard, or at the beach, but I can’t enjoy a cigarette in either place. Something about the smoke from my 8 MM wide ash tip that is polluting the air that my Campfire Loving neighbors feel should be illegal. Meanwhile they are throwing old treated wood, and all kinds of c**p on their fire, every weekend. YUCK.
Again, resorting to name calling is neither productive nor does it show any willingness to seek out truth, and brain storm soultions… so, No I’m not a moron, im am not a ‘tard, I am a 50 year old mother of five and I love facts.. So DAMNing is the answer eh? Well good old Hoover Damn worked for a long time, however Las Vegas’s Lake Mead is draying up faster than the polar ice caps are melting:

I have one more point to make on this severe drought we face here in SoCal and global warming worldwide; VERY SELDOM do we hear any of the experts talk about the fact that sun is at an all time high of solar flares, CMEs, and that this alone could be responsible for our warming, many earthquakes (coming within 2-3 days after an earth facing CME) and the unusual weather patterns including m$#%&!@*ive storms and even drought. THIS WILL LESSEN OVER TIME. What we need to do is ensure that clean water is available for human consumption worldwide, and put into place a system so the next time the sun goes into its natural cycle of high activity we don’t have to choose between humans, 29 minnows, baseball turf, or winery’s. They will all have water if we can solve the problem now.
