Jay Familglietti, NASA’s top water scientist, recently warned that California has only a year’s supply of water left in storage facilities and the backup groundwater is rapidly depleting. Despite this harrowing fact, California has no backup plan to address this crisis.
“California has no contingency plan for a persistent drought like this one (let alone a 20-plus-year mega-drought), except, apparently, staying in emergency mode and praying for rain,” stated Familglietti. “In short, we have no paddle to navigate this crisis.”
UPDATE: California Gov. Jerry Brown issues ineffectual, mandatory water restriction as one-third of our nation’s crops are threatened. See Page 3 for updates.

there were 29 of these endangered fish. Why the heck couldn’t they have gently put them in a tank, taken them to Scripps and started breeding them in about 50 gallons of water instead of 4 billion gallons…
and yes, I think the fact that they say the amount of water used to flush those minnows out was enough to supply Oceanside with water for a year speaks VOLUMES. When Gov Brown only a few days ago was going to write an “Executive Order” fining people who took long showers (A) how would he know the water was being used in the shower? cameras in our faucets now too? B) These Liberals have a lot of nerve using this “executive order” C**P in a Republic (California’s Flag even states it is a REPUBLIC state… Not a $#%&!@*taterSHIP…
As for where I live, I presently live in a small 900 sq. foot home. I have lived in my car, on the Boston T, and have owned six homes in my lifetime (so far), I have even lived in a 7,500 sq ft. mansion and a hollowed out tree, What Edward Edmonson has that to do with the fact that San Diego county is projected to run out of water in 2016, and our government is exempting big fracking operations which require a LOT of water and cause swarm earthquakes, the type of which could easily set off one or more of the MANY MAJOR FAULT LINES in this State. as these operations show CLEARLY, DAILY in Oklahoma Kansas and Texas earthquakes with a magnitude of 1 – 4.5 on Oklahoma Everyday. each one centered at the site of a fracking well.
Matt Johnson, ever been in an 6+ earthquake on the coast, with tall buildings all around you, or maybe driven across a double decker bridge during one? Have you ever been so thirsty that your lips were chapped and bleeding? It’s like your throat wants to scream with each swallow. Here in Southern Cali they are giving homeowners free rocks for zero scaping (which is cool) but isn’t a real solution. By the way, Arizona might want to consider doing that, get the humidity back to normal for desert humidity). I grow some of my own food; Watermelon, pumpkins, tomatoes, potatoes, cu$#%&!@*bers, avocados, sweet peas, and these plants, which give off O2, and food, would probablly make it seem as if I take too many long showers, because they use water. so basically if I want to plant and maintain a garden Jerry Brown can say my water useage is too high and fine me $500 for my above average water use in the growing seasons. The situation here is not simple, and wasting all that water on those 29 fish which could have been moved in a 50 gallon tank, AND FINALLY I notice that when a person, usually a left wing socialist (but maybe not this time) can’t express their poin of view in a logical manner, they resort to non-productive name calling. Hillary Clinton is great at that. Matt Johnson, are you voting for Hillary? I’m not Stop Hillary In 2016
I thought they said the polar ice caps were basically *POOF* gone… but then I did some checking because I too wondered why the Oceanside Strand wasn’t underwater yet… Turns out that Antarctica is growing and the North Pole is melting. So I can’t explain that, But I will say this, I saw an amazing do$#%&!@*entary where they showed waves which froze and the moment of “breaking” onto the edge of the Antarctic coast, They froze like a still action surfer photo. AMAZING.I still think that if it is true that the North Polar Ice cap is melting as they say it is then something is getting that water, and it ain’t the Ocean.

How Low Can Snow Go?
April 1, 2015
California set a new “low water” mark today with its early-April snowpack measurement. The statewide electronic reading of the snowpack’s water content stood at 5 percent of the April 1st average. Today’s content was only 1.4 inches, or 5 percent of the 28-inch average. The lowest previous reading since 1950 was 25 percent of average, so Water Year 2015 is the driest winter in California’s written record.
Up in the Sierra Nevada, the media-oriented snow survey at the traditional Phillips Station snow course just off Highway 50 90 miles east of Sacramento found no snow whatsoever today. At 6,800 feet, Phillips should be covered in snow this time of year as the snowpack reaches its peak. The average depth at Phillips since surveys began there in 1941 had been 66.5 inches, so to find not a flake in the meadow was remarkable and dismaying in equal parts.
