The establishment wing of the Republican party can’t stop fantasizing about sabotaging Donald Trump — and neither can Mitt Romney.
Despite that he cannot win — a fact that he readily admits — Mitt Romney is still talking about entering the 2016 presidential race as an independent candidate.
The former GOP nominee continued his flirtation with the presidency this past Wednesday when he said that people are still encouraging him to jump into the Clinton/Trump race.
Romney is right about one thing. He wouldn’t win… but not because he would be running as an independent candidate. It is because he has already proven that he cannot win — even with a major party behind him. He’s lost twice before, and his third run at the Oval Office would likely be no different.

I think the fact that Trump is alientaing a fair amount of republicans has the party worried. The fact is he has maybe half of the party’s support, and he hasnt really done anything to bring the core conservative base back to him. Mitt’s too GOP for me, but that doesnt mean i dont think there are about a million better candidates for prez than trump. I think were all going to have to be prepared for the fact that were about to lose for the third term in a row..
