Since the men and women who serve as judges attended law school, the question must be asked what these law schools are teaching. Or perhaps a better question would be, “with what are these law schools indoctrinating their students?” Far too often we learn of judicial decisions that make no sense, and we’re not talking only of the bizarre decisions federal judges have made regarding President Trump’s travel ban.
The courts have power because the people respect them and the executive branches enforce their decisions. Take these away, and the courts just turn into editorial departments. Sometimes it seems like that is the direction they wish to take.
More on page two.
So many logical fallacies, so little time.
You said it’s not about giving up freedom, and then proceed to argue in favor of giving up your right to privacy, clearly asked by the fourth amendment.
Your example with an employer doesn’t hold water. Employment is a voluntary agreement between to parties. If my employer tells me they’re going to search my belongings everyday, I can choose not to work the anymore. If a cop pulls you over for doing 2 miles over the speed limit, sees your passenger reclined in their seat and idiotically associates that with some illegal behavior and decides to search your vehicle, or maybe even decides a roadside cavity search is appropriate, (which happened not that long ago to some lady in Oklahoma) you can’t opt out of that. And that’s why we have the fourth amendment. What if it was your mother, sister, or daughter being cavity searched on the side of the road? It’s worth mentioning they didn’t find anything, not that it’s even relevant.
Substance abuse is absolutely a huge issue. Destroying everyone’s right to privacy, and locking those people in cages isn’t helping anyone. I’m not sure why you don’t understand that when you go on to mention a number of programs that actually do help people.
Lastly, when we started the war on drugs in 1971, 1.2% of the population were addicted to illegal drugs. After 45 years, well over a trillion dollars spent, millions incarcerated, the police militarized, the fourth amendment decimated, and about 1.3% of the population are addicted to illegal drugs. If you think that’s been a worthwhile investment you’re beyond reason.
Who hates our rights and freedoms??
Our own federal government that’s who!!and the corporations who own them.
You had fun I know, but to remind you, it’s UNREASONABLE search and seizures. This comes down to discretion. If a dog is off a leash and looks at you and speeds up and you’re not sure if it’s friendly, you’ll likely think about defense. Why? You’ve never seen that dog and don’t know that dog, so why did you look for an escape route or think about ways to fight it off? It was just going after the squirrel behind you. But you assumed something incorrect….Oh well. Dog wasn’t hurt, you weren’t hurt. Doesn’t hurt to lock your car in a dangerous area. It’s just caution. You wouldn’t know bc you’re not sworn to protect people. You throw out facts and figures and superlative words that don’t even relate, but at the end of the day, lives are being saved thru caution. You likely complain about TSA too when flying. We don’t have the luxury of convenience bc so many have done so much that is so dangerous. So yes you presented many logical fallacies and while it’s been fun sparring for a moment, I see it’s too easy and not fun anymore bc your mind is too locked and negative to see the wiring behind the panel here. Lol you’re using words like idiotically, decimated, militarized, destroying…. When you’re the one idiotically militarily trying to decimate and destroy the truth — which is, safety precautions are in place to save. And yes, many lives are saved every week all over the country, Alaska to Florida. What if that was your wife, mother, sister or daughter who was on the way to do something awful that would have cost her her life but a chain of events occurred that saved her from getting killed, raped, robbed, locked up, a car accident etc etc?
Just do the right thing, and you’ll be fine. Or keep seeing the glass half empty and filling the air and cyberspace with more whining and negativity. Do right or do wrong. People are gonna do stuff you don’t like. Adults handle it. That’s the end of the topic.

Well hell, why weren’t we given all this PERTINENT information, from the get go? I just wasted time reading all the back and forth, (now pointless), comments. This turned out to be a really p**s poor article. (There were some good points made though..)
What a messed up ruling. I have to lay the seat back some because of back problems. I travel and they might think the bag of cookies is reason to search. I dont think so.
Ummmm….what KIND of baggie??? That’s never mentioned in this article. There’s a huge difference between a sandwich bag with potato chip residue and a small zip loc commonly used for dope. Poor article.
Johnny Bryant – The cops here retire on a heck of a lot more money than I did after 30 years of service!!!
Ann Premo – Yeh…how did that defense work for the Nazis???
