Indiana Gov. Mike Pence has announced that, starting in 2015, new food stamp applicants that are “able bodied” and don’t have children must work at least 20 hours, or be in job training, to receive food stamps.
Other states are considering re-instituting the requirement, like Maine and New Mexico, after it was waved following the financial crisis in 2008.

Whether or not it is ‘above minimum wage’ is not important. What is important is the sense of accomplishment and self-reliance one gets when they escape the ‘welfare mentality.’ It does not matter what the pay is because they are current receiving money for doing nothing. Food stamps pay for ‘whatever’ because school districts usually provide these children two meals a day-even in summer. Other American citizens are working and paying taxes to support many able-bodied people on welfare; why not give these individuals a sense of responsibility for their own lives instead of training them to depend on the government (taxpayer) for their sustenance? BTW the key word here is “without children.” Expect to see an increase in birth rates.
