You can trick your whip all you want, but GM says that car is still theirs, no matter what you’ve paid. In a hearing this week, General Motors attorney Harry Lightsey said that purchasing and paying off your GM vehicle is a license agreement and not ownership.
The U.S Copyright Office is holding a hearing on whether anyone other than the vehicle’s manufacturer has the right to alter the that car’s copyrighted software. With modern design being what it is, this means almost altering anything about the vehicle.
Mechanics and private owners are saying they need to be allowed to make repairs on their vehicles to keep them running or maintain their business. But GM is saying that anyone unauthorized altering anything about the vehicle could create problems with the software and endanger the driver. This sounds more like a business ploy on the part of GM to hold a monopoly on vehicle repairs.

The reality is every American should already own one from bailing them out of financial ruin. Safety of the driver my$#%&!@*these fools need every red cent they can get there greedy hands on. They have proven once they can’t handle their business accordingly and needed a bailout, they also know that won’t happen a second time, so they throw out some bottom shelf nonsense like this to in an attempt to force money out of people. Can’t wait to see the suits panic when they finally reach the end of the line. The American people own everything that comes out of that place.
Liberals must own GM!
So I guess there is no point in getting a government motors car unless you only lease it
Alright all you GMC none owners did you get that. It’s a hell thing that you could of paid up to $50,000 for a vehicle and you don’t own it. Big question if you don’t own it why are you paying tax on it ever year ? Call GMC and demand your tax money back. That or sue them money money
GM can kiss my$#%&!@* I own a 2002 not them! If they want to buy it back I may consider selling at my price not theirs. Further more suck on my exhaust pipe idiots.
No software here! AMC built mine before they went out of buisness in the 80’s
I guess thats why I get things in the mail wanting me to buy onstar for my ’06 chevy “second notice” , wonder when the “final notices” start coming. Like AARP, after dropping them a year later “final notice “,”final notice”,”final notice” !
No buy Toyota. Not GM junk
Actually the youth today don’t believe in ownership at all. Phones, computers, how many of them have a video collection, tape, everything is downloaded, they think it is their right.
Thank you. And then it’s repairs or but a new one.
