You can trick your whip all you want, but GM says that car is still theirs, no matter what you’ve paid. In a hearing this week, General Motors attorney Harry Lightsey said that purchasing and paying off your GM vehicle is a license agreement and not ownership.
The U.S Copyright Office is holding a hearing on whether anyone other than the vehicle’s manufacturer has the right to alter the that car’s copyrighted software. With modern design being what it is, this means almost altering anything about the vehicle.
Mechanics and private owners are saying they need to be allowed to make repairs on their vehicles to keep them running or maintain their business. But GM is saying that anyone unauthorized altering anything about the vehicle could create problems with the software and endanger the driver. This sounds more like a business ploy on the part of GM to hold a monopoly on vehicle repairs.

That is most definitely a dishonest service department. My Hyundai dealership warns me weeks in advance when it looks like something might wear out and will even show me what’s getting worn and why. But they never try to force service on me and will even buy a part on the seconary market if it’s less expense than what they have in stock. That’s good cusrtomer service, something most dealerships are clueless about.
If that’s the case you owe me alot of money for the maintenance.
If all it is is a lease why pat tens of thousands of dollars for it and if I get hurt in it wouldn’t that make the manufacturer responsible for my injuries
Come try and take it from me!!!
Why the$#%&!@*are you driving a GM
Really? Wow. So-o-o … does the bakery still own the loaf of bread I bought last week? If they want it back I can tell them exactly where to find it. Most of their junk is now manufactured in foreign countries like China. This is how they do things in CHINA! EVERYTHING in China is owned by the Chinese government!
When I bought a Cadillac in 1949 the dealer told me if I take proper care of this car I will probably never have to buy another car. Today, if any car that you buy lasts more than 5 years without a major brakedown consider yourself very lucky.
Absolutely. We are taking our car to a local mechanic that we have used before and he has been very honest and reasonable.
So true
I’ll never purchase a Chevy for no reason
