You can trick your whip all you want, but GM says that car is still theirs, no matter what you’ve paid. In a hearing this week, General Motors attorney Harry Lightsey said that purchasing and paying off your GM vehicle is a license agreement and not ownership.
The U.S Copyright Office is holding a hearing on whether anyone other than the vehicle’s manufacturer has the right to alter the that car’s copyrighted software. With modern design being what it is, this means almost altering anything about the vehicle.
Mechanics and private owners are saying they need to be allowed to make repairs on their vehicles to keep them running or maintain their business. But GM is saying that anyone unauthorized altering anything about the vehicle could create problems with the software and endanger the driver. This sounds more like a business ploy on the part of GM to hold a monopoly on vehicle repairs.

that is why I have not bought a general motors car for the last 40 yrs.
GM and John Deere have both said the same thing. They want to keep picking out pockets. So with the computer systems, EPA regulations and licensing it’s hard to convert to carb and distributor and dump these a**holes, go back to the old better ways
Guess it time to stop buying gm and john Deere
No problem , they just have to supply ALL maintenance and repairs at NO COST to the “consumer” forever ,no matter who has current possession of the vehicle , since it “really belongs to GM”.
GM forgets this is a republic not a democracy. If we pay for it belongs to us.
THE SEND ALL REPAIR BILLS TO GM AND HAVE THEM PAY FOR ALL REPAIRS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If this is true , then should something happen to cause a death, they become accessories to the death …….. what goes around comes around……
Sounds like GM does not want anyone but the Dealers to work on the cars.
There’s a lot of money in those tune ups and repairs!
Or, are they hiding something?
My brother just bought a new GM car and it’s already in the garage same as his last car more time in the garage than on the road !!
Please don’t make me change my bowtie to an oval!!!
