You can trick your whip all you want, but GM says that car is still theirs, no matter what you’ve paid. In a hearing this week, General Motors attorney Harry Lightsey said that purchasing and paying off your GM vehicle is a license agreement and not ownership.
The U.S Copyright Office is holding a hearing on whether anyone other than the vehicle’s manufacturer has the right to alter the that car’s copyrighted software. With modern design being what it is, this means almost altering anything about the vehicle.
Mechanics and private owners are saying they need to be allowed to make repairs on their vehicles to keep them running or maintain their business. But GM is saying that anyone unauthorized altering anything about the vehicle could create problems with the software and endanger the driver. This sounds more like a business ploy on the part of GM to hold a monopoly on vehicle repairs.

Wish someone would pay my bills like the taxpayer did for you
This business ploy sounds like a good reason not to buy GM products.
Maybe people won’t really buy one
Ford was a socialist, look it up.
Sounds like a good way for GM to go out of business. I guess they don’t understand that we don’t HAVE to buy their cars and trucks.
I’d rather own a simpler, less computerized car – less expensive, easier to work on. But don’t you think the manufacturers of these computerized cars have had this “monopoly” idea in the works for a while hence the reason for the type of cars they are make. It all ties in very conveniently for them.
In a way they’re right, we don’t really own them. The banks do until we’re done paying for them 😉
I’m sick of GM and their words games, BOYCOTT GM!!!
I have an 05 freightliner truck, after having fuses and relays for how many decades ,That drivers could change they got rid of most of them and added computer modules. That way drivers could no longer diagnose simple electrical issues with lights and other systems. Now it has to be taken to a dealer and hooked to a computer and if the computer doesn’t tell them what’s wrong they don’t know what to do,its so complicated half the time they have no idea what’s going on. I guess the just needed more money, cant have owners fix their own truck when you can them $110. an hour.
Just don’t buy one!! They took their factories out of the country , after we the people bailed them out!! They no longer have a right to dictate anything in this country!!
