With the advent of cellphones as a standard device carried by hundreds of millions daily, the ability of citizens to film police and politicians in public settings has increased accountability for those holding positions of public trust.
Unfortunately, a growing trend of judicial tyranny could curtail a person’s right to access their phone to suddenly film an event unfolding before them in a public setting.
First Amendment rights advocates argue that the right to film public events should never be abrogated, given the protections of the U.S. Constitution.
But with the judiciary having more statist judges in place, it’s become more challenging to protect these most basic rights.
In the federal Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals in Missouri, a recent ruling has struck down the right to film public officials in a public setting. On the next page, learn how the dispute may have to head to the Supreme Court to get resolved.
Too bad! We do! They are employees! Employers have the right to monitor employees!
Why afraid someone will catch you doing drugs taking bribes or sexual activities any kind of corruption
OH YES THE DO HAVE THAT RIGHT.
This is b******t. You are accountable to the US Citizens who elected you and pay you to represent them. Its high time your are held for your actions and inactions.
They are working for the citizens and they should have the right to film them if they want to. Who come up with this crazy c**p. Had to be a liberal judge appointed by Obama. I guess the liberal congress are tired of getting caught with the hypocritical statements that they have been making. Something like “we have to pass the healthcare bill to see what is in it” or ” we have to see what’s in the healthcare bill before we pass it.”
Not sure why you have a picture of Pelosi. She had nothing to do With it. The District Court can’t overrule Supreme Court. The gentleman will be exonerated. Trump wants to shut down 1st Amendment. Won’t happen. And other government agencies, ie cops and public servants are paranoid, because they could do what they wanted. But we will make them accountable.
What’s recorded in public is a matter of public record and therefore legal
All lies.
So if you see something say something but if it’s cops better not record it ?
Sounds legit to me, Not!
B******t, what happens in public, is legal to film or take pics
