I grew up with well water. Does the gvt. even let people do that anymore?
Depends on the state but for the most part unless it’s a shallow well with a sand point , you have to have it done by a licensed well driller as there are many state regulations for it most have to do with keeping surface water from getting down and contaminating the deeper ground water that’s mhy any abandoned well is supposed to be properly filled and sealed.
I pumped water for cows when I was a kid from a well that was one ten foot joint of one and a quarter inch pipe with a three foot point on it. Plenty water in coastal Al. Hand pump we called it a pitcher pump
