This would nt work here in California we have hard rock and hard pan and Oh yeah. No water.
I tried this in florida…my 18 foot well stopped working for whatever reason….i got down to 18 feet in about 3 minutes in the Sandy soil.and then it locked up like set in concrete instantly….cut it off tried again…same same….paid a guy 1000 bucks to drill it.

I have seen predictions that put the die-off rate as high as 90% in the event of an EMP or CME grid down scenario. Judging by some of the comments on this thread, I can see why. Here are a few basics that MIGHT improve some of your chances:

Look like it uses a c**p load of water.
Be aware that there is a lot of contamination in shallow ground water. You may be pulling water from a neighbors septic laterals especially in a dry year. Abandoned wells are responsible for much of the contamination. They allow fertilizer pesticides and dog poo to get down below the layer of microbes that protects shallow water table. Municipal water now comes from very deep wells to avoid the cost of decontamination.
