The restaurant Sneakers Bistro in Local Winooski, Vermont has removed a sign that had the word ‘bacon’ due to Muslim opposition.
In a Facebook post, the restaurant issued the following statement, ““We are here to serve people BREAKFAST, not politics. We removed the sign that was located on public property as a gesture of respect for our diverse community. There were also concerns raised about safety (emphasis added). Removing it was not a difficult decision. We still love bacon. We still love eggs. Please have the political conversation elsewhere.”
Is the ‘safety’ factor the restaurant cited due to their fear of what would happen if they didn’t remove ‘bacon’ from their sign?
Jewish religion prescribes avoiding bacon, yet Jewish people know and live within cultures that will eat this food. For centuries, Catholic people didn’t eat meat on Fridays. But they were not offended by their non-Catholic neighbors who did. They expected that their practice belonged to them and hoped others would respect that. The Muslim woman protesting the bacon sign has a wonderful opportunity to respect her neighbors’ practice of enjoying bacon while maintaining the practice of her Faith. It’s not like the word “bacon” is defaming the name of the Prophet is it? It’s not sacrilegious (I don’t think) to acknowledge that bacon exists and some people actually eat it.
and i would’ve spelled the word bacon with little bacon strips..
Well that’s pretty sad that you think you need to obey their request. There are plenty can’s of worm’s that can open. Will you also fall to their request? We need to stop listening to their commands.
Yep,,show that restaurant that you are not muslim and want no part of them by never eating there again….with only muslims eating there see how long they can stay open……
first the sign, then the menu. see the writing on the wall. Muslim beliefs offend me, anf a lot of other people. what’s being done about that?
This is America not your muslim land, either get your own eating place or stay home, best of all LEAVE OUR COUNTRY. YOU ARE OFFENDING US BIG TIME.
If just the word bacon offends them, what’s next? You serve a Christian bacon and eggs and then they says a silent prayer and then you let a Christian hating Muslim chop their head off.
