For those who have grown a bit cynical, the idea of ethics in government might appear self-contradictory. In other words, we might be able to have one or the other, but not both — at least not at the same time. This thinking is partly a by-product of the very public ethical lapses committed by those in government positions.
As easy as it would be at this point to launch into a diatribe against the Clintons, who have taken corruption to new levels, they are really just one part of the problem. And it distracts us from the fact that there are government officials who do exhibit a high level of ethical behavior in their spheres of responsibility.
The problem is compounded by the need to review the behavior of government officials when potential ethics violations are discovered. What this implies is that we have the government monitoring the government. The potential problems with that are obvious.
As Mr. Trump prepares to arrive in the Oval Office we see how this system can go awry. More on page two.
I’m curious about how obama’s wealth went from 1.6 million when first elected, to 12.8 million in four years. Wasn’t salary and the market sure didn’t yield those sort of returns.
Tom, I doubt anybody can beat out Hill and Bill for the shilling for dollars to some of the most evil individuals and nations; while driving those dollars to their NPO. You know the one that invested little to real charity but large to Hill..Billy…Chelsea and assorted bubbas. The face they are an NPO is ludicrous and was ongoing for years. The millions the old blowhard got for his “speaking engagements” what a joke.
Idol threats
These aholes are more interested in political mudslinging then making our government work for us.we can’t have this going on they need to be Givin the boot.
Yes Steve Mccourt. When we become a democracy we could do that. But as of right now we’re Republic. Our government is run by law but not by people
Stop the gravy train, #DrainTheSwamp
If I weren’t a Christian I’d tell him where he could stick it…Just so tired Of these wanna be in the news crooks….I think He’s doing great and he’s only been in office 5 minutes… I’ve grown really tired of these boisterous snotty nose,,bed wetting, Cry babies …Who won’t accept the truth about the Clintons because for no reason they’re aware of they decided to be Democrats and even I don’t know the difference..WE ARE ALL AMERICANS. ….
A Democratic politician talking ethics, what a joke!!! I’m not saying Republicans have anymore ethics than the Dems. But you have to call them as you see them.
Drain the swamp? And replace with who? Billionares? Yeah. What could go wrong there? The wealthy used to have massive influence. Now they are in the positions. All because you believe they are going to make you “Great?” You are delusional. Your jobs are not coming back. Not because of trade deals, foreign policy, immigration,. But changing economic climate to a global economy. And you didn’t adapt. A whole segment of Americans missed the “Information Revolution” and did not adapt to technology. Not the governments fault. It was your fault. I believe we are at the beginning of the next economic revolution. And it’s energy. Fossil fuels is not sustainable. The world demand for energy is to double by 2025. And new technologies in solar, wind, tidal generators, geothermal. Electric storage. And I’m betting a large segment will miss that opportunity as well. THERE IS NO GOING BACKWARDS. So what does this have to do with ethics? It’s the lack of ethics that is keeping this new revolution from exploding. Billionares that have too much stake in fossil fuel industry. I drag race as a hobby. Thus this view is against my own interest. But I’m also a technology guy. And you have to ask yourself. Am I positioned for a new economic revolution?
More past corruption are still buried waiting to be excavated.
