For those who have grown a bit cynical, the idea of ethics in government might appear self-contradictory. In other words, we might be able to have one or the other, but not both — at least not at the same time. This thinking is partly a by-product of the very public ethical lapses committed by those in government positions.
As easy as it would be at this point to launch into a diatribe against the Clintons, who have taken corruption to new levels, they are really just one part of the problem. And it distracts us from the fact that there are government officials who do exhibit a high level of ethical behavior in their spheres of responsibility.
The problem is compounded by the need to review the behavior of government officials when potential ethics violations are discovered. What this implies is that we have the government monitoring the government. The potential problems with that are obvious.
As Mr. Trump prepares to arrive in the Oval Office we see how this system can go awry. More on page two.

Go back to stocking the shelves.
I do every night because it is not beneath me to do that work. Stock in the busiest Walmart in the region and put in a good days work. Nothing wrong with that.
Trey Gowdy owned Hilary and the FBI director by not caring who the$#%&!@*they were and asking the questions that needed to be asked.
Don Beach Altering evidence is also grounds for disbarment Gowdy at the very least should have been reprimanded.
Yes let’s get on the ethics guy and not worry about Russia messing with our democracy. Are you kidding me
Yes let’s get after the ethics guy and not worry about Russia messing with our democracy. Brilliant
Tom Melendy wrong answer. 1st COI LAWS do not apply to presidents.
2nd why if so successful are they closing Clinton Cash down? No more donors. That was fast. Must not really be as you express or …….pay for play is now over and no interested donors without promises of grandeur.
Ratings can be bought too ya know.
Barry, wrong answer! Look up emoluments clause. POTUS cannot accept funds personally from foreign parties
Cry baby’s
He’s proven himself to be bias and supported Hilary’s campaign. He was downgrading Trump’s plans before he even checked in on them. Obviously unfair statements on the t.v. at that. And he’s suppose to be ethical? Please!
