When Congress passed the Intelligence Authorization Act for 2015, it granted the executive branch not only the ability to spy on American citizens private communications, but also the legal authority to turn that information over to local law enforcement.
All of this can be done without any court order being granted, all in the name of ‘fighting terror’, of course.

I’m very idealistic and not very paranoid of our goverment. I believe that if our government is spying on people, they are looking for legit threats to our society. I’ve yet to be given multiple examples where innocent civilians were spied upon and had their rights taken away, aka, thrown in jail without a proper trial, never to be released. All I’ve seen so far is people using the same old tyrannical government rhetoric with comparisons to$#%&!@*Germany.
